John Oliver was born about 1835 in Ohio. He came to Montana about 1864 and, in partnership with J. Gauthur, bought a bakery in Virginia City.They also sold liquor and invested in mining claims. He sold the bakery to Etienne Dupuis in 1868. He continued to live in Virginia City at least until 1870. From the description of John Oliver records, 1868. (Montana Historical Society Library).
